ItinerAppia Enhancement of the widespread heritage
The project, which has a strong emphasis on technology, aims to facilitate the discovery of an extremely vast region, as well as to improve the accessibility of the wealth of historical, archaeological and naturalistic content that characterises the site in its entirety. All this through a complex system that integrates a web-based solution and an innovative on-site system composed of information panels and QR codes for use with mobile devices.
The use of technology
The ItinerAppia technological platform includes all of the content made available by the Appia Antica Archaeological Park management, which is all geo-referenced and available both online and on mobile devices, creating an interactive museum experience and a tangible enhancement of the heritage that becomes easily accessible to visitors.
A complex project
The ItinerAppia project is characterised by considerable complexity given the number of partners involved. In fact, the project stretches across five archaeological parks:
- Parco della Via Latina
- Valle della Caffarella
- Parco degli Acquedotti
- Parco di Tor Fiscale
- Tenuta di Tor Marancia
Itinerappia includes over 50 itineraries and some 150 points of interest -- aqueducts, burial grounds, road engineering works, and religious and civic buildings --, located within 3,500 hectares of land between the municipalities of Rome, Ciampino and Marina, and Piazza di Porta Capena and Frattocchie.
To better understand the project and discover, even from a distance, some of the contents created, it is possible to visit the Itinerappia web platform.
